St John’s Nottingham inspires, resources and grows Christians to serve and lead in God’s mission in today’s world. Through training and education in spirituality, intellectual enquiry and practice of mission and ministry, St John’s equips ministers, worship leaders, pastor-teachers, counsellors, youth workers, children and families and schools workers, evangelists and cross-cultural workers.

Ordination Training
For Undergraduates: 2 years Diploma in Theology and Ministry, Third year BA in Ministry
For Graduates: 2 years Certificate followed by Postgraduate Diploma or MTh, Third year involves a choice of LTh (flexible and creative) or MA in Mission and Ministry (choice of specialisms) or a research degree.
For theology graduates we plan an individual course which usually involves completing the MTh and one of the third year options.

Mixed Mode Training
Part 1: by distance learning. Part 2: 5-week blocks over two years alongside a lay curacy. Part 3: further study weeks in college. Training leads either to a BA in Theology in Ministry or an MA, depending on prior study.

Studying Theology
Independent students (those not sponsored by their church for ordained ministry) can come for one, two or three years full-time:
Year 1: Certificate in Theology & Ministry or Graduate Certificate
Year 2: Diploma in Theology and Ministry or Postgraduate Diploma or MTh
Year 3: BA in Ministry or LTh (flexible and creative), MA in Mission and Ministry or research

Youth Ministry
At the Midlands Centre for Youth Ministry you can gain a BA in Youth and Community Work and Applied Theology with the JNC professional youth work qualification, combining classroom teaching with mentoring in a practical work placement.
From Sept 2009 a new course is being introduced: BA in Youth Community Work and Practical Theology
MA Reflective Practice and Applied Theology – Professional development for youth workers and other related professions.  2-5 years part time
MA Youth and Community Work and Applied Theology - JNC endorsed professionally qualifying course. 2-5 years part time
Engage – 6-8 modules incorporating a youth support worker qualification

Children’s Ministry (from Sept 2009)
BA in Children and Family Work and Practical Theology. This new course will run alongside the Youth Ministry course and also combine classroom teaching with mentoring in a practical work placement.

Schools Ministry (from Sept 2009)
BA in Schools, Youth and Community Work with Practical Theology with the JNC professional youth work qualification. This new course also combines classroom teaching with mentoring in a practical work placement.

Part-time Courses
Our Certificate and Graduate Certificate can be taken one day a week over two years and are ideal for equipping you for leadership in the local church.
You can convert your Diploma into a BA or study for an MA, both part-time, through In-Service Study weeks.
You can study Counselling at Introductory or Post-Graduate level.
Counselling Skills for Pastoral Care - An introductory, but very substantial, module including theology and self-reflection as well as skills training.
Postgraduate Diploma in Pastoral Counselling - A part-time course, integrating professional counselling training with theological understanding of human process and development.

Distance Learning
The Certificate and Diploma in Theology and Vocation are validated by the Open University, and can lead to a BA completed through In-Service Study weeks.
The Certificate in Christian Studies (CCS) is a college course that can be taken over 2 year or more, or you can take individual modules as and when you like.

Leading Children – Practical, distance learning course with tutor support.

Occasional Courses
Short study units for serving clergy and others in full time Christian work from all denominations. Subjects include new modules such as Engaging Culture, Virtual World and pastoral care and the human lifecycle, social theology, inter-faith dialogue, Biblical interpretation, Emerging Church.

Fit for the Purpose – a short course on vocation that you can work through yourself or with a distance learning tutor. Optional weekend available.

Listening Skills - A 5-day residential course for those who want a concentrated experience of listening training.

Summer Schools - and an assortment other occasional courses are available, including Myers Briggs and Greek
