College Mission Statement Planted in Community, Seeding the Nations “They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the LORD for the display of his splendour” Trinity School of Theology is committed to training enough people, who working with local Churches around the world, will reach and disciple at least 21 million people in the 21st Century. The nations and the power of Prayer and Faith are at the heart beat of TST's vision. Students are planted in an International college community; rooted in the word of God; refreshed by His Holy Spirit and sent out to reach the nations with the good news of Christ. |
Curriculum
Trinity School of Theology offers flexible learning opportunities for people in all walks of life. You can choose from full-time and part-time degree pathways, as well as a variety of other training opportunities, including ‘Hot Topic’ days, which will be held termly.
Full-time Curriculum
The teaching sessions in Theology & Ministry are mainly delivered on Mondays and Tuesdays. A very practically focused module, Vocation, Ministry and Discipleship is taught on Thursdays. On each of these three mornings, the staff and students meet for assembly.
The following Theology & Ministry modules are covered in each of the three years:
First Year:
Spirit and Church in a Mission Context
Evangelism into the Future;
Introduction to Religious Diversity
Studying the New Testament
Studying the Old Testament
The Development of Christian Faith in History
Second Year:
Communicating the Christian Story (Homiletics)
• Studying the Bible (Hermeneutics)
• Pastoral Ministry in Context
• Vocation, Ministry and Discipleship
• Mission in Context
Independent Learning Unit (Independent research).
Third Year:
• Biblical Studies
• Ethics
• Pastoral Care
• Leadership and Management
• Special Study (placement based project) or Special study (research dissertation), or both a placement project and shorter piece of independent research.
Given the way that the timetable is structured, it is possible to enrol on the full-time degree pathway and still work a part-time job, provided you are able to allocate 30 hours for personal study in addition to attending the crucial lectures on Monday and Tuesday. This option is only open to UK and EU passport holders.
Full-time study at degree level will result in the following qualifications, awarded by York St John University:
After 1 year: Certificate of Higher Education in Theology and Ministry
After 2 years: Foundation Degree in Theology and Ministry
After 3 years: BA (Honours) in Theology and Ministry
Part-time Curriculum
1. Degree Pathway
For students wishing to pursue a degree on a part-time basis, there are several options available. You could join those who are on a full-time programme, but attend lectures on only one day each week. This will result in the following qualifications awarded by York St John University:
After 2 years: Certificate of Higher Education in Theology and Ministry
After 4 years: Foundation Degree in Theology and Ministry
After 6 years: BA (Honours) in Theology and Ministry
Trinity School of Theology Certificate and Diploma
For European Union students, it is possible to study at Trinity School of Theology, attending all the same lectures as the degree students, but not having to undertake the degree assignments. Instead, less academically rigorous assignments will be set, the successful completion of which will result in the student obtaining either a one-year Certificate or a two-year Diploma in Theology from TST.
2. Modular Study
It is possible to choose which individual modules you would like to study rather than be on the part-time degree pathway. On successful completion of the module you would be awarded Higher Education credits. It is also possible for individuals to take the modules on a non-accredited basis with TST assignments, or simply to ‘audit’ the modules and do no assignment. These modules would be paid for individually.
3. Non- Accredited Short term study
This is a new programme which will commence in September 2010. An evening course throughout the autumn term will look at a range of topics for 10-12 weeks. Some assignments would be set and a Trinity School certificate would be awarded at the end of the course to those achieving the required standard. This is an ideal opportunity for those unable to be released from their commitments for study during the week. It might also be of interest to those who were considering an accredited degree course in the future and wanted to get a ‘taste’ of what it might be like.
4. ‘Hot Topic’ Days
These will commence Summer 2010 and will be held once a term. A specific topic will be addressed throughout the day, and delegates from all walks of life will be invited to attend. There will be a key note speaker and specialists from their field, depending on the topic being addressed.
